No. 1: SF 49ers must cut down on offensive turnovers

Washington scored 14 defensive points off SF 49ers turnovers in Week 14, and one can safely make the argument that’s why the Niners lost.

It doesn’t matter who’s under center for San Francisco on Sunday versus Dallas, quarterbacks Nick Mullens or C.J. Beathard. Neither are exactly known for protecting the ball, and Mullens’ 3.4 interception percentage this season ranks next to worst out of 35 qualifiers ahead of Week 15.

But what’s worse is the SF 49ers are now sitting with the second-most offensive giveaways on the season with 25, and repeating that kind of debacle seen against Washington in Dallas would be a prime reason why the Niners suffer yet another embarrassing defeat.

Fortunately, the Cowboys aren’t exactly a ballhawking team, registering only 14 defensive takeaways this season, which is tied for seventh fewest. And Dallas isn’t doing a much better job protecting the ball either, committing just one fewer offensive turnover than San Francisco.

If the SF 49ers come out on the right end of the turnover differential in this contest, it should be a relatively easy win for Kyle Shanahan and Co.

And one more chance to laugh at the Cowboys.
