SF 49ers Quarterback No. 3: Levi Lewis, Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns

The SF 49ers currently have five picks between Rounds 5 through 7, and it would be foolish if they didn’t look at a project-type quarterback in the mold of many dual-threat signal-callers they face on a regular basis.

Perhaps developing him into something useful along the way.

The Draft Network referred to Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns quarterback Levi Lewis as a “poor man’s Kyler Murray,” and considering the Niners face Murray and the Arizona Cardinals twice a year, along with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have someone who can pose as one of those mobile QBs running the scout team against San Francisco’s defense in practice.

Lewis has neither size nor a powerful arm at his disposal. But he doesn’t shy away from making plays, either through the air or on the ground with his legs when plays break down. It’s his ability to extend plays with his legs that make him such a unique late-round/undrafted prospect.

The SF 49ers haven’t had a mobile quarterback since Colin Kaepernick in 2016, and Kyle Shanahan has shied away from going in such a direction ever since taking over duties in 2017.

That could change with a player like Lewis, though, who stands poised to take the No. 3 spot on the depth chart in our first quarteraback-room prediction.
