Disappointment No. 4: Perhaps SF 49ers don’t have a playmaker in Tarvarius Moore

At multiple points this season, fans and analysts alike have been clamoring for third-year defensive back Tarvarius Moore to see an increased role. With strong safety Jaquiski Tartt out for the rest of the year with a toe injury, Moore is getting his chance.

Week 13 didn’t do Moore any favors, though.

Simply put, Moore’s efforts against the Bills were awfully paltry, him often being well out of position and giving up massive chunk yards to Buffalo receivers. He was the defender in coverage against Bills wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie on the latter’s touchdown, and there was the ugly blown coverage when Moore didn’t pick up wide receiver Gabriel Davis from Richard Sherman:

Poor angles and iffy coverage skills were the notable marks against Moore, both during his rookie season and last year. Despite his unique raw skills, it’s not appearing as if the defensive back is taking those necessary strides in his development.

And considering how many secondary players San Francisco could lose to free agency this offseason, Moore’s lack of improvement is awfully devastating.
