SF 49ers NFL Draft: 7-round non-quarterback mock for 2021
By Peter Panacy
Round 5, Pick No. 172 Overall (from Saints): SF 49ers select wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, USC
San Francisco appears to have found its best wide receiver duo in Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. But the depth behind that pair is lacking and won’t get much better in 2021.
With the team’s 2018 second-round pick, Dante Pettis, jettisoned during the offseason, the SF 49ers could also end up losing fellow wideout Kendrick Bourne in 2021 when he hits free agency. Bourne has served as a decent tertiary option, while slot receivers Richie James and Trent Taylor have been in the depth portions of the roster.
Taylor is also poised for free agency next year.
Kyle Shanahan likes speed and route-running abilities with his wideouts, and USC’s Amon-Ra St. Brown possesses those traits.

He was a go-to receiver in 2019, and his three games this season suggest he’ll hold that role again en route to the NFL Draft.
It’s likely the 6-foot-1 St. Brown winds up being a bigger slot-type receiver at the NFL level, using his quick burst and keen footwork to attack over-the-middle routes to great effect.
If the Niners pick him up, St. Brown could hopefully round out a dynamic trio of pass-catchers at Shanahan’s disposal.
