SF 49ers NFL Draft: 6 quarterbacks to target who aren’t Zach Wilson
By Peter Panacy
SF 49ers QB Target No. 3: Kellen Mond, Texas A&M
If the Niners elect to pass on a quarterback in Round 1 and Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond is there when their number is called in Round 2, Kyle Shanahan shouldn’t hesitate to pounce regardless what the situation with Jimmy Garoppolo is.
Mond, 6-foot-3 and 217 pounds, has all the likable traits for a pro-level passer. He’s big, athletic, gets the ball out quickly and has timely precision with his releases.

His lowish accuracy this season is a bit misleading, as he’s more often than not an accurate passer capable of hitting tight windows with relative ease. And while he’s not a traditional scrambler and tends to stay in the pocket, Mond’s 501 rush yards and eight touchdowns in 2019 suggests he’s more than a threat moving the ball on the ground.
Still, Mond’s best traits are within the pocket, and that’s likely what Shanahan will want him to do if the Texas A&M product winds up finding his way to San Francisco.
