5 coolest plays from SF 49ers win vs. LA Rams in Week 12
By Peter Panacy
The SF 49ers pulled off a much-needed win over the LA Rams in Week 12, and these five plays sure stood out from the Ninersâ vantage point.
The SF 49ers managed to keep their slim playoff hopes alive by pulling off a crucial 23-20 last-second win over the LA Rams in Week 12, relying on a six-point comeback in the fourth quarter to squash what had been a previous stretch of 17 unanswered points by Los Angeles between quarters three and four.
By doing so, the Niners improved to 5-6 and inched closer to one of those precious Wild Card berths in the NFC playoff picture.
Yet San Francisco dominated the action outside of that five-minute span where the Rams got back into the game.
Needless to say, the SF 49ers engineered some awfully impressive plays that stood out when compared to the rest of the game. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, EDGE Kerry Hyder and safety Jimmie Ward were some of the key standouts who ensured the Niners would walk away with the win.
Not surprisingly, they easily make the list of âcoolest playsâ stemming from Week 12.
Letâs take a look at the five most impressive ones.
No. 5: Kerry Hyder gets a clutch sack late for SF 49ers
With just under 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Rams were looking to increase their 20-17 lead and had all the momentum in their favor.
Facing a 3rd-and-4, Hyder managed to get around LAâs right tackle, Rob Havenstein, to bring down quarterback Jared Goff for the pass-rusherâs second sack of the game:

And it was a big one. The Rams were forced to punt, and the SF 49ers would tack on a game-tying field goal the following possession.
Hyder now has a team-high 7.5 sacks on the season and is just half a sack removed from his career-best total of 8.0 set back in 2016 with the Detroit Lions.
While Samuel and Ward got a lot of credit for delivering San Francisco the win, one canât overlook Hyderâs impressive performance as a key reason why the Niners won.
