SF 49ers Winner: Kerry Hyder

Few, if anyone would have predicted EDGE Kerry Hyder would be the SF 49ers’ leading sack artist through 12 weeks of the season.

But that was before injuries to players like EDGEs Nick Bosa and Dee Ford, while defensive end Arik Armstead has been more of a run-stopper than a pass-rusher with sack totals getting into double digits again.

Hyder entered the game as the Niners’ leading sack specialist with 5.5 on the season. After getting to Jared Goff twice on Sunday, he’s now sitting at 7.5 and well ahead of anyone else on the roster in this particular category. Hyder also recovered one of the Rams’ two fumbles during the game, too.

What’s even more special is the fact Hyder is just half a sack from his career-best total of 8.0 recorded back with the Lions in 2016.

It’s pretty clear Hyder thrives under San Francisco’s defensive line coach, Kris Kocurek, who held the same position with Detroit that year.

Hyder is a free agent in 2021, and the SF 49ers would be more than wise to re-sign him to help beef up their pass-rushing depth next year.
