SF 49ers Loser: Ahkello Witherspoon

Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon was a healthy scratch for the third consecutive game.

It would have been one thing if Witherspoon was dealing with an injury. But he’s been healthy. And the fact the Niners have far more confidence in cornerbacks above him, including nickel defensive back Jamar Taylor who was carted off with what’s believed to be a torn ACL, Witherspoon’s future with the team looks bleak.

Taylor’s pending absence for the rest of the year could shake things up a bit, particularly if starting nickel back K’Waun Williams is able to return soon from an ankle injury.

Right now, though, Witherspoon is buried deep down the depth chart, and that wasn’t helped by the healthy return of Richard Sherman.

A free agent in 2021, it seems as if Witherspoon’s time in an SF 49ers uniform is coming to an unceremonious end.
