SF 49ers Winner: Jimmie Ward

Week 12 was safety Jimmie Ward‘s best game this season.

Ward was all over the place during the game. And while cornerback Richard Sherman got plenty of hype for picking off Rams quarterback Jared Goff after missing each game since Week 1 with a calf injury, one should make the easy argument Ward was the more impactful player for San Francisco.

Especially when you consider Ward had one pass defended and two forced fumbles in the game, including this one from Goff:

The Niners weren’t able to generate any points off Ward’s two generated turnovers. But in line with how San Francisco’s defensive efforts went, at least those turnovers prevented the Rams from scoring on either one of those drives.

That’s a pretty big win.

Ward, fair or not, has received his share of criticism this season after inking his lucrative free-agent deal last spring. But in Week 12, Ward was a major difference-maker and reason why the SF 49ers defense was so effective against a potent Los Angeles offense.
