No. 3: Cooper Kupp hurts SF 49ers defense to the tune of 100 yards

Bold predictions don’t always have to be in San Francisco’s favor.

Ironically enough, the SF 49ers did an excellent job containing the Rams’ leading pass-catcher back in Week 6, holding slot receiver Cooper Kupp to a mere three catches on nine targets for just 11 yards. While Los Angeles’ offensive efforts that week weren’t particularly inspiring, holding Kupp at bay for essentially the entire game was quite the achievement.

Don’t expect recent history to repeat itself twice, though.

Kupp was exemplary in the Rams’ Week 12 win over the Buccaneers, hauling in 11 catches for 145 yards to bring his team-leading season total up to 64 grabs and 772 yards. Plus, the Niners won’t have their top nickel cornerback, K’Waun Williams, back from an ankle injury and parallel PED violation, meaning reserve defensive back Jamar Taylor will be asked to provide the primary coverage on Kupp.

That’s an advantage for the Rams.

While San Francisco’s pass defense has been excellent this season, one can boldly predict Kupp will still go over the 100-yard mark in this NFC West bout.
