In a season full of questions, which SF 49ers regressed the most in 2020?

2020 has been a season that has reared its ugly head in many different ways for the SF 49ers. Key players are being lost due to injuries, and many backups and even practice squad players have had their names called on gamedays.

Some of these backups that were thrust into starting roles performed well only to be injured themselves. Free agents were signed to fill voids and got injured and ended up out for the season. Practice squad players were activated and they too got injured and placed on the IR.

Amid all this chaos, it’s easy to forget the accolades of the actual players on the SF 49ers that remained on the field. It’s hard to find too many positives in a 4-6 season. But there have been players who have performed extremely well.

Linebacker Fred Warner, who is quickly becoming one of the best middle linebackers in the league, has played extremely well in losing efforts. He has drawn praise from fellow players and experts around the league for his versatility and high football IQ.

Defensive end Kerry Hyder, who filled in for an injured Nick Bosa, leads the team with 5.5 sacks. And cornerback Jason Verrett has been stellar in coverage

There have definitely been some bright spots in the SF 49ers season with individual performances. But there have also been many not so great showings from a number of players.

Some players actually look as though they have regressed.

Which players had the biggest regression this season? Let’s take a look at the three that seem to have taken the biggest leap back from previous seasons.
