5 cornerback prospects SF 49ers should scout for 2021 NFL Draft
SF 49ers Cornerback Target No. 4: Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech
Could the SF 49ers consider a player who has elected to sit out the 2020 college season? Caleb Farley is just such a player, and it’ll be interesting to see where teams rate players like him given there’ll be no tape on them for 2020.
If you go by his most recent tape in 2019, Farley is the kind of player who consistently made plays for Virginia Tech and cemented himself as a possible candidate for a first-round pick before the COVID-19 pandemic derailed the season.
In 2019, Farley recorded four interceptions and had 12 passes broken up. He was on an island at times for the Hokies and was well up for the challenge.
Farley fits the physical requirements needed for the Niners system, and his 6-foot-2, 207-pound frame should see him among the bigger corners up for early round consideration.
Whether or not he needs to be picked on Thursday night is an interesting situation. Farley will go into the draft as a one-season wonder with possible durability concerns as he had to sit out 2017 with a torn ACL.
He has potential, but a lack of college production outside of last year means the SF 49ers could potentially pick him up in a later round.
