SF 49ers: 3 players who should be benched after Week 10 loss to Saints
By Peter Panacy
No. 2: SF 49ers Safety Marcell Harris
San Francisco’s backup strong safety, Marcell Harris, is a decent reserve player. He’s capable of forcing fumbles and has some strengths against the run.
In pass coverage, though, it appears as if his struggles from 2019 have carried over into 2020. According to Pro Football Focus, opposing quarterbacks are posting a 109.7 passer rating when targeting him in coverage.
Harris didn’t see much of the field in Week 10, instead giving way to fellow defensive back Tarvarius Moore, who showed much more flash at the back end of the secondary and was heavily responsible for limiting New Orleans to 123 net pass yards during the game.
But Harris made mistakes when he was out there, though, including a painful missed tackle, of which the Niners dealt with many on Sunday afternoon.
Again, Harris isn’t a player San Francisco should part ways with anytime soon. He has his place on the depth chart.
Instead, the SF 49ers need to give Moore additional snaps in Harris’ stead, relegating the latter to the deeper portions of the depth chart.
