SF 49ers vs. Saints: 3 weaknesses Kyle Shanahan must expose in Week 10
By Peter Panacy
No. 2: Nick Mullens, SF 49ers don’t have to worry much about Saints interceptions
Nick Mullens can be prone to tossing interceptions, and his 3.0 interception percentage this season ranks ninth among all qualifying quarterbacks.
That’s not good.
But at least Mullens won’t have to worry too much about New Orleans being a ballhawking team.
True, the Saints do have seven interceptions on the year, which is just about in the middle of the pack, defensively. Yet if one takes away the three picks New Orleans’ defense generated against quarterback Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in its Week 9 blowout, the number doesn’t look so intimidating.
Before that game, the Saints had an interception percentage of just 2.16 percent, which ranked 20th in the league.
If Mullens is smart and efficient with the ball, one can figure the pre-Week 9 trend of the Saints not intercepting passes much will continue. And it’s important to help keep playmakers like Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas off the field as much as possible.
