SF 49ers EDGE Target No. 4: Joe Tryon, Washington

. EDGE. Huskies . Joe Tryon. 4. player. 818

Washington EDGE Joe Tryon electing to opt out of the 2020 in light of the pandemic could potentially affect his 2021 draft stock, although finishing his sophomore year with eight sacks and 12.5 tackles for a loss was perhaps the best way to leave a lasting impression through this year.

At 6-foot-5 and 262 pounds, Tryon looks to be the part of a good speed rusher and supplementary component to a defensive line where he won’t have to be the No. 1 threat. If he’s matched up against double teams, it’s too easy to knock Tryon off his pass-rushing route. Yet he’ll win enough one-on-one matchups to create enough pressure and havoc within the backfield.

If San Francisco wanted to feature EDGE Nick Bosa on the weak side of the formation, while mixing in a player like Tryon on the strong side, that might make some sense.

For now, it’s tough to gauge where Tryon likely goes in the 2021 NFL Draft. He could be an early day-three prospect, depending on how his NFL Scouting Combine workouts and team interviews go.

Yet there’s the possibility he rockets up towards second-round consideration, too.

If Tryon slips, however, the SF 49ers should be interested in his upside as a 4-3 strong-side EDGE.
