Round 6, Pick No. 194 Overall: More SF 49ers O-line help with Iowa’s Alaric Jackson, Iowa

194. player. 878. . Offensive Tackle. Hawkeyes . Alaric Jackson

Iowa offensive tackle Alaric Jackson is something of a polarizing prospect. Not long ago, he was considered an outsider for possible first-round consideration, although a number of big-board rankings now have his stock falling well into day three of the NFL Draft.

That’s certainly possible, too, probably going in favor of the likelihood the 6-foot-6, 320-pound lineman would be better off shifting inside to guard where the 2021 class is awfully deep.

This hurts his draft stock, sure. But the SF 49ers still have a need there, and they clearly like Iowa’s football program anyway, namely after grabbing George Kittle and quarterback C.J. Beathard back in the 2017 NFL Draft.

As a run-blocker, Jackson is perfectly adept and has no trouble opening up lanes both at the point of contact and the second level.

Pass protection could be an issue. But with some of the liabilities within San Francisco’s O-line depth halfway through 2020, it’s pretty clear some new faces would be beneficial.
