5 likely destinations for Jimmy Garoppolo if SF 49ers move on

Jimmy Garoppolo Destination No. 1: New England Patriots
Well, wouldn’t this be something?
The wake of the New England Patriots’ quarterbacking situation post Tom Brady’s 2020 departure for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has left head coach Bill Belichick in quite the conundrum. At 2-5 and with a complete rebuild looking all the more likely, Belichick and Co. are surely considering their future under center sans quarterbacks Cam Newton and Jarrett Stidham.

And one can only think back to that 2017 trade that sent Jimmy Garoppolo to the SF 49ers in exchange for a second-round pick.
There’s no shortage of speculation Belichick never wanted to jettison Garoppolo when he ultimately had to, yet the thought of a potential reunion between Jimmy G and his former head coach has to be on the thoughts of every NFL fan, should the Niners ultimately part ways with their quarterback this offseason. After all, Garoppolo was supposed to be the heir apparent to Brady.
Financially speaking, the Patriots have more than enough resources to make a deal work. They’re currently projected at $66,077,834 under the salary cap for next season, and one has to figure Garoppolo’s familiarity with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ system makes it a seamless fit.
The only irony, of course, would be if Garoppolo would wind up thriving under Belichick and McDaniels in a way many initially thought would happen back in early 2017.
And that has to be something potentially weighing down the SF 49ers’ minds, too.
