SF 49ers Fear Factor No. 3: A Seahawks Super Bowl Win

Maybe the days of the SF 49ers and Cowboys being heated rivals no longer apply, and one could make the case the Seattle Seahawks are now the biggest villains that scare Niners fans the most.

Perhaps the fear stems from the 2014 NFC Championship game, the back-and-forth contest that ended with then-Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s infamous fade pass for wide receiver Michael Crabtree, only to be deflected by a former San Francisco arch-nemesis, cornerback Richard Sherman, and into the hands of then-Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith.

That eliminated the 49ers. But the story wouldn’t have been as scary if the Denver Broncos did their part to avenge the Niners defeat by upending Seattle in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Except San Francisco fans’ fears were fully realized by the 43-8 Seattle win over Denver.

Frightenly painful.

The Seahawks losing the Super Bowl the following year alleviated the scare SF 49ers fans had, but the thoughts of yet another Lombardi Trophy being hoisted by quarterback Russell Wilson and Co. still makes Niners fans shudder.
