SF 49ers: 3 players Kyle Shanahan will call on most amid injuries
No. 1: SF 49ers Cornerback Jason Verrett
Cornerback is another position that the SF 49ers just haven’t been able to have enough healthy bodies for. Richard Sherman, Emmanuel Moseley and Ahkello Witherspoon have all been injured this season at various points.
In the time they’ve been out, one such individual has been playing excellently. That individual’s name is Jason Verrett. He has been absolutely playing lights out, giving fits to any receivers he matches up against.
For his performance against the Los Angeles Rams, the former first-round pick of the San Diego Chargers earned a 94.0 Pro Football Focus grade and earned the PFF’s Defensive Player of the Week accolade. Prior to Week 7, Verrett was allowing a passing rater of 7.8 to opposing quarterbacks, which was a league-best through the first six weeks.
Verrett has been an absolute shining star in a unit that is extremely banged up. As the 49ers enter a tough four-game stretch before their bye week, they will be looking to Verrett to match up against their opponents’ best receivers.
