No. 4: SF 49ers EDGE Kerry Hyder

Last, but most certainly not least on this list of 49ers players fighting for their futures is edge rusher Kerry Hyder.

Hyder came to San Francisco on a one-year contract after previously playing with the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys. Hyder was expected to be a reserve lineman, adding depth to the SF 49ers defensive line.

However, due to injuries to many 49ers defensive linemen, including star edge rushers Nick Bosa and Dee Ford, Hyder has had to take on a leading workload in the defense’s pass rush. Despite his relatively small experience starting, Hyder has shined in the role, starting four games already this season, and racking up a team-best 3.5 sacks so far.

Hyder has become a valuable addition to the 49ers defensive line, and with Ford not expected to be back soon, Hyder will need to continue to produce to help the defense remain dominant. If Hyder can continue to play at this level, there is no reason the Niners should hesitate to sign him to a new deal in the offseason. If Hyder keeps playing the way he has been, he should win the fight for his future with the 49ers.

The question is only if he can keep it up.

The 49ers are currently fighting to keep their season alive. At the same time, many players are fighting for their individual futures with the team.

If all of these players can play well this season, they should be able to secure futures with San Francisco. If not, their NFL future will be much less certain.
