SF 49ers Good Storyline No. 2: Fred Warner becoming an All-Pro linebacker
If you ask most SF 49ers fans, linebacker Fred Warner has been approaching All-Pro status for the better part of two seasons now.
Drafted out of Utah in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Warner has always displayed the qualities and characteristics of a natural leader: smarts, accountability, and toughness to name a few.
In fact, Warner has yet to miss a game in his three-year NFL career, allowing him to become a leader who sets the tone of the defense not only by his words but with his actions.
Warner spoke about it with NBC Sports Bay Area, saying:
"I hold myself to the highest standard possible each and every day. It doesn’t matter if it’s a game day or in the meetings or in practice, I hold myself to such a high standard. Then, I can hold other people to that, as well."
Leading by example has helped Warner take his game to another level, and the results are speaking for themselves. Through the first six games of the 2020 season, Warner has garnered 40 solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, and one interception for a Pro Football Focus grade of 81.9, currently ranking him third overall in the NFL at the position.
With injuries all over the defense, Warner has stepped up and become the team’s best defensive player.
While no one can deny the impact EDGE Nick Bosa has had on the defense even before his injury, Warner is currently the team’s most complete player overall.
The best news for Niners fans is that Warner is just 23 years old, so his ceiling as a player still has not been reached. Considering he is in the midst of an All-Pro worthy season, that ceiling is now sky-high.
