SF 49ers Trade Target No. 4: Running Back Frank Gore

This might be more for sentimental reasons to Niners fans, but there’s some merit for adding 37-year-old running back Frank Gore.

For starters, should San Francisco’s 2020 campaign go into the dirt and the team finds itself out of realistic playoff contention by the halfway point of the year, Gore would at least give the fanbase an added level of enjoyment. He’d be worth watching regardless whether or not the SF 49ers were going to finish with a sub-.500 record.

There’s also the attrition San Francisco has suffered at the position. The 49ers are going to be without their top runner, Raheem Mostert (ankle), for at least a few weeks. Fellow tailback Tevin Coleman is banged up, which leaves Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson Jr. and JaMycal Hasty as the remaining three options.

Gore could supplement the depth chart, guarding against further injury and will get a chance for one final “hurrah” with his former team.

And it’s not like he’d cost much by the way of a trade, perhaps nothing more than a seventh-round pick or even a player-player swap — the latter likely not involving anyone the SF 49ers would want to keep around anyway.

At best, it would get Gore out of New York. He deserves that.
