SF 49ers: 106 thoughts during Week 5 win vs. LA Rams
What went through your mind during the SF 49ers’ Week 6 prime-time matchup against the LA Rams? Here’s what went through ours.
A mediocre 2-3 start, but an upset here over the LA Rams could give the 49ers a bit of a jump.
Aaron Donald vs. a leaky offensive line, I am cringing even as I type this.
49ers to receive the ball here.
They’re our most dynamic receivers.
Flawless start! Deebo runs in for the touchdown!
Kittle had a monster block there, too.
Extra point good, 7-0 to the good guys.
Let’s see if the defense can have a similar start.
And it’s a good start by the defense! They stop the Rams at midfield.
Some Jared Goff overthrows helped admittedly, but the defense was still solid enough given the injuries in the secondary.
Can the 49ers go up by two possessions?
The patented Tom Bra–I mean Jimmy Garoppolo sneak gets the first down.
Kittle drops a pass, that’s unusual. It wasn’t the easiest pass to be fair.
Checkdown won’t get a first down and the Niners will punt.
Let’s go defense.
Amazing coverage on that set of downs. Much better than other weeks.
Jason Verrett looks amazing.
I hope his health continues to hold.
SF 49ers again have a chance to build a bit of a lead here.
Holding call. Ugh.
Someone explain to me how so many teams didn’t see Mostert’s talent?
The play-calling of Kyle Shanahan has been spectacular this quarter.
Surely that cannot be a fumble…
Jerick McKinnon got touched, clearly.
I am actually in disbelief this has been called a fumble, surely this will be overturned.
They’re still reviewing this, can we get some new refs please?
Well thank God, they actually made the right call.
After about five minutes.
First quarter ends. 49ers 7-0 up and threatening again.
Fourth down and Kittle gets the catch and goes in for a touchdown!
Kyle Shanahan’s play-calling has been a 10 out of 10 this game.
Garoppolo looks so much better this game, too.
14-0 to the 49ers, what a half this has been.
Goff scrambles for a first down, but that doesn’t frustrate as much because he was forced to run due to good pressure.
Twice the 49ers have gone into the neutral zone, they need to be more disciplined.
First time the Rams have had a sustained drive and they’re threatening to get their first touchdown here.
Touchdown Los Angeles… but a holding call brings it back.
An amazing catch from the Rams’ Robert Woods in tight coverage, and it’s 14-6 after a blocked extra point.
Let’s see if the offense can continue their momentum.
The penalties have been undisciplined from the SF 49ers this half.
Crisp pass to Kendrick Bourne, Garoppolo looks so different to last week.
Another crisp pass to Bourne!
How is this not instantly a Rams penalty for neutral-zone infraction?
Finally, they call it. After another five minutes it seems.
Perfect hard count by Garoppolo.
Not Garoppolo’s best pass there, but luckily there’s no harm done.
Touchdown! Garoppolo to Aiyuk!
Three touchdown passes this half for Jimmy G!
It’s been a great response so far from last week.
The 49ers have been so good on defense, get a stop here and the offense gets one more chance.
The variant on the hook and lateral doesn’t work and the Niners get the ball back!
The 49ers couldn’t quite get down the field enough, but 21-6 is a great result for the first half.
Here comes the second half!
Rams going down the field thanks to some long passes finally connecting for Goff
A false start penalty sinks the Rams drive, a bit of luck needed but the SF 49ers will take it.
Kick is good, 21-9 to the 49ers.
Let’s see if the 49ers can keep the offensive momentum going.
Unfortunately, they were not able to. Ugh.
Defense needs to come up big.
Another undisciplined penalty by the defense. They really need to stop it.
49ers defense lucks out, Cooper Kupp stumbled when free on a deep pass and it’s incomplete.
Mostert looks like he may be held out of the game, can we get JaMycal Hasty in, please?
Offense has stagnated, unfortunately.
The Rams’ Darrell Henderson is running the ball down the field here.
ANOTHER defensive flag. It’s getting pathetic now.
This is a great goal-line stand by the SF 49ers, they need to hold on for one more play.
INTERCEPTION!
JASON VERRETT!
The offense couldn’t get it there, Bourne drops a catch there.
It’s been stagnant this quarter, it just needs a team to break it open.
Hopefully it’ll be San Francisco.
The defense is so far holding up, it’s a total reverse from last week.
Another punt for the Rams.
The 49ers just need one more touchdown to really be comfortable.
HASTY TIME!
He’s had a couple good runs here, has a wicked cut move.
Ugh, more injuries. This time to Trent Williams.
The SF 49ers have not gotten going on offense in this half.
The Rams will need to score twice, but San Francisco hasn’t done much to keep the game out of reach either.
What a punt! Tarvarius Moore grounds it right next to the goal line!
The Rams can’t get up the field, and the 49ers should get better field position here.
Ugh, Kyle Juszczyk was wide open, but Garoppolo overthrows him badly.
What a play by Kittle! The drive continues.
It’s not a perfect drive, but the 49ers can get a field goal here.
No problems from Robbie Gould, and it’s 24-9.
The defense just needs to not break here.
Ugh, touchdown to the Rams. The soft zone defense wasn’t good enough.
I loathe the soft zone defense. All it does is let them go down the field. Why not just continue to play the same defense?
I’m serious, it should be booted from the league unless there’s virtually no time left.
Rams elect to kick long instead of an onside kick.
So a long drive can still bleed the clock here.
Hasty definitely looks like he belongs on the roster.
Two-minute warning coming up.
A first down will end it, a stop will give the Rams one drive to tie it.
DEEBO!
That was an absolutely brilliant play to get those yards after contact.
Which means the 49ers get the upset!
The 49ers are not dead yet, but still have a long way to go.
Thank you for joining me tonight, for what was a much more satisfying game.
