The SF 49ers host the visiting Rams on Sunday Night Football in Week 6, and these three Rams pose a serious threat to the Niners defense.

8 p.m. ET. 42. Sunday, Oct. 18. 2-3. Rams -3.5. 4-1. 51. NBC

For some reason, despite all that went wrong for the SF 49ers in Weeks 4 and 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins, respectively, coordinator Robert Saleh’s defense still somehow manages to have the league’s 10th-best scoring defense, a unit that’s ranked fifth best in yards allowed, No. 11 against the run and No. 3 against the pass.

Perhaps the Niners’ two wins over the winless New York Jets and New York Giants inflated (or deflated, depending on how you view it) those statistics quite a bit.

Nevertheless, it appears as if San Francisco’s defense might not be quite as bad as the post-Week 5 prognosis would suggest.

Yet that changes in Week 6 when the 4-1 Los Angeles Rams come to town for an NFC West divisional showdown on Sunday Night Football.

Unlike last season, when the Rams went 9-7 and generally looked disjointed and out of sync on the offensive side of the ball, head coach Sean McVay’s squad appears to have turned things around quite a bit early in 2020. While Los Angeles ranks 12th in overall scoring, McVay’s offense has generated the league’s fifth-most yardage and boasts the No. 7 overall rushing attack. And by way of the pass, the Rams are averaging 8.3 yards per attempt — second best in the league through five weeks.

Needless to say, San Francisco’s prospects of stopping L.A. during prime time are going to be much more difficult than all that broke down versus Miami a week ago.

Especially if these three Rams offensive players get involved early and often.
