SF 49ers Target No. 2: WR Keelan Doss, Las Vegas Raiders

If the Niners aren’t going to continue activating third-year wide receiver Dante Pettis, who found himself on the inactive list in Week 5, it might as well be time to free up that roster spot by moving on from him sooner than later.

True, Kyle Shanahan’s offensive system is complex. And anyone brought in without prior knowledge of it is going to be facing an uphill struggle. But that’s why it would make sense to grab someone with a decent amount of potential upside for long-term development at a low risk.

That’s where Las Vegas Raiders p-squad wide receiver Keelan Doss comes into play.

Doss isn’t overly speedy, which is a key Shanahan trait to have. Nor does Doss have elite-level separation skills. But his hands were soft enough out of UC Davis, and Doss is one of those players who can make a name for himself in the yards-after-catch department.

If you’re looking for a better fit, that’s the area in which you’d find it.

Plus, Doss has the size trait many of San Francisco’s other receivers lack. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Doss’ frame alone would provide a better-than-average target.

Especially if the SF 49ers’ 2020 campaign starts to get out of hand in the coming weeks.
