SF 49ers Target No. 3: OL K.C. McDermott, Jacksonville Jaguars

While San Francisco’s cornerback situation is dicey, the situation along the offensive line is a complete mess.

Despite being relatively healthy at this spot, Football Outsiders still has the SF 49ers O-line ranked 23rd in pass protection and next to last in run support.

Awful.

If there have been two primary liabilities, they’ve been on the right side of the line with guard Daniel Brunskill at tackle Mike McGlinchey. The Niners aren’t going to give up on McGlinchey, a 2018 first-round NFL Draft pick, just yet. But trying to upgrade over Brunskill might be worth exploring.

A player worth taking a shot on is Jacksonville Jaguars backup lineman K.C. McDermott, who joined the Jags as an undrafted free agent back in 2018 out of Miami where he was tasked to go up against some of the tougher defensive ends and pass-rushers in the ACC not long ago.

McDermott figures to be a better guard than tackle at the pro level, but he’d at least be capable of competing with Brunskill and perhaps pushing off another veteran who struggled in camp, Tom Compton.
