The SF 49ers suffered a humiliating defeat against the Miami Dolphins. Here’s why.

For the SF 49ers, it will take quite a long time until the shame and humiliation inflicted upon them by the Miami Dolphins will go away.

The Niners looked incompetent, incapable, incoherent, inept and ineffectual. If there are any other synonyms with a prefix beginning “in-,” then rest assured they were that as well.

The 43-17 drubbing almost feels like it flattered San Francisco, with the only scant mercy being when the clock finally ticked down and the game was finally over.

It was four quarters of being absolutely dominated on both sides of the ball, against an opponent that was actively tanking in 2019. They’re in a better position in 2020, but the Dolphins had no business doing that to San Francisco.

Yet they did, and the injuries the SF 49ers are suffering at the moment is not sufficient to fully explain exactly what happened.

It’s apparent that this Niners squad is not the team of last year. Player regression, injuries and just plain bad play have contributed to this. This is not a team that is punching a lot of teams in the mouth, minus the horrible teams from New York, but a team that is itself being punched in the mouth in return.

Evaluating what has gone wrong for the season will of course need to wait for the season to play out, but we can at least take a look and see what caused the Dolphins to hand out such hefty punishment to San Francisco.
