No. 1: The SF 49ers’ 2-2 record

The NFL is a win-loss business. All the other disappointments, injuries, setbacks and obstacles don’t matter much if a team is ultimately winning.

Case in point, the SF 49ers still managed a 13-3 regular-season record last year and made it to the Super Bowl while dealing with a ton of injuries and underperforming players, yet few complained about what was going wrong with the team.

But 2-2 is a far cry from the red-hot 8-0 start the Niners enjoyed last year. While it’s not an “end of the world” scenario for Kyle Shanahan and Co., considering the tough NFC West and the fact San Francisco is currently sitting in last place within the division is problematic.

What’s even more frustrating is the 49ers should have been able to engineer wins over both the Cardinals and Eagles. The Niners were favored by 6.5 points over Arizona, according to The Action Network, and they also were a touchdown favorite over Philadelphia.

In Week 1, the Cardinals engineered their own second-half comeback to pull off the 24-20 win, while San Francisco let the Eagles hang around in Week 4 and also turned the ball over three times.

That ensured Philly’s 25-20 victory.

Two games the 49ers of 2019 would have likely won, yet those one-too-many mistakes are becoming a common theme among Niners losses this year.
