No. 4: SF 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead

The SF 49ers defense had a tough time against the Eagles offense lead by quarterback Carson Wentz. But a guy Wentz would’ve been happy not to see so much was defensive tackle Arik Armstead.

Armstead was in the backfield all night. According to NFL NextGen Stats, Armstead averaged about 4 yards of distance in the pass rush. He was in Wentz’s kitchen all evening, which forced the quarterback to elevate his game.

Unfortunately, he did.

Coming into Sunday’s action, Armstead had a total of seven tackles. He finished the night with an additional five tackles and was credited for half a sack.

With the holes fellow defensive lineman Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas left behind after suffering season-ending ACL tears in Week 2, the SF 49ers needed someone to step up.

So far Armstead has filled the gap.
