No. 3: SF 49ers won’t have to worry about a slew of Eagles wideouts

Yes, San Francisco is dealing with some notable question marks at cornerback entering Week 3. Corners Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) is out. So is fellow cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (concussion). Even nickel corner K’Waun Williams (hip) is questionable for the game.

This would be problematic if the 49ers were going up against a top-tier offense. Yet the Eagles are currently ranked 28th in total scoring, and their passing offense is generating a league-low 4.6 yards per pass attempt.

One of the chief reasons? Injuries.

Philly is going to be without the following pass-catchers on Sunday:

  • WR DeSean Jackson (hamstring)
  • WR Alshon Jeffery (foot)
  • WR Jalen Reagor (thumb)*
  • TE Dallas Goedert (ankle)*
  • TE Josh Perkins (upper body)*

Additionally, second-year pro wideout J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (calf) is doubtful, yet it isn’t as if he’s made a substantial impact for Philadelphia since being selected in Round 2 of last year’s NFL Draft.

Needless to say, nearly all of Carson Wentz’s targets are likely to go to tight end Zach Ertz, who is essentially the Eagles’ lone offensive threat now through the air.
