SF 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is finally back this weekend and will look to crush the Eagles secondary.

It seems like it’s been an eternity, but SF 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is finally going to be making his sophomore season debut this coming Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles in prime time!

It’s been a rough start to the season for the Niners despite their 2-1 record with the injuries to a number of star players, including EDGE Nick Bosa, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and cornerback Richard Sherman, but Samuel’s return comes in like a breath of fresh air for the franchise and fans.

After a somewhat slow start to his rookie season, in which he was mostly becoming acclimated to head coach Kyle Shanahan’s complex offensive scheme, Samuel broke onto the scene and became one of the SF 49ers’ most important players in both the passing and running game.

His rookie stat line was quite impressive, finishing with 57 catches for 802 yards and three receiving touchdowns. He also added quite a bit of production on the ground, leading all wide receivers in the NFL with 14 rushes for 159 yards and three touchdowns.

Samuel is essentially the perfect multi-use tool for Shanahan’s offensive system due to his elite skills in both the ground and passing game, but most importantly due to his skills after the catch. Samuel has an incredibly tough build, which when mixed with his quickness, allows him to bulldoze opposing defenders and allow for him to gain chunk yards after the catch no matter who’s put in front of him.

While the Niners offense has been solid to date with the emersion of rookie wideout Brandon Aiyuk and contributions of other various players, it has still been missing the spark from the 2019 season with the absence of Samuel. While Aiyuk, too, is a yards-after-the-catch monster, Samuel’s skill set is much more appropriate when used as more of an X-receiver on the outside due to his large catch radius and better route-running skills.

It’s also helpful the Eagles are pretty decimated on both sides of the ball, which will no doubt help Samuel get comfortable in his first game back this season.

Samuel will no doubt look to build on his outstanding rookie season and will hopefully make a hefty progression in his development. Shanahan is surely just as excited to have one of his favorite offensive players back in action.
