No. 2: SF 49ers cornerbacks are a serious question mark

Granted, cornerback Jason Verrett who made his 2020 debut with the team this week in New York, had a stellar game. His health is as big of a question mark as anyone. Parlay this with the fact veteran corner Richard Sherman is injured as well and has started to slightly look at his age of late, and there starts to become some real concern for an already iffy secondary unit.

Sure, Emmanuel Moseley has been fine for an undrafted player, but he is still not an alpha No. 1 cornerback who is able to cover opposing superstar receivers in this league, and he fits much better as a zone corner alongside a more established set of players.

Outside of these three players, who have some form of concern attached to each of them, the secondary unit is essentially non-existent, with Ahkello Witherspoon being a favorite target for opposing quarterbacks on a weekly basis.

Luckily the SF 49ers haven’t faced many real gunslingers to date so this issue isn’t as glaring as I’m making it seem.

It’s definitely going to be a long season if these 49ers cornerbacks can’t stay healthy, though.
