The SF 49ers visit the NY Giants in Week 3, and Niner Noise breaks down the latest injury report, betting odds and the weather forecast.

Perhaps the football gods are being unfair to the SF 49ers, making them play on the exact same turf where they suffered a slew of devastating injuries last Sunday in a 31-13 win over the New York Jets in Week 2.

This time, for another road matchup in Week 3, the 1-1 Niners take on the 0-2 New York Giants back at MetLife Stadium, opening up concerns whether or not the turf on the field is safe to play on. Multiple independent inquiries concluded there weren’t any elevated injury risks associated with the field, although don’t tell that to head coach Kyle Shanahan and defensive tackle Arik Armstead.

Four key injuries will hamper San Francisco’s efforts to getting to 2-1 on the season: quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), running back Raheem Mostert (knee) and defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas, who both tore their ACLs last Sunday and are now out for the year.

This opens up the door for some other contributors to make an impact, though, namely No. 2 quarterback Nick Mullens, recently signed EDGE Ezekiel Ansah and running back Jerick McKinnon.

Still, the 49ers’ injury report remains awfully concerning heading into this Week 3 road bout.

SF 49ers vs. NY Giants injury report

SF 49ers

  • RB Tevin Coleman (knee): OUT
  • EDGE Dee Ford (back): OUT
  • QB Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle): OUT
  • LB Dre Greenlaw (quadricep): OUT
  • TE George Kittle (knee): OUT
  • RB Raheem Mostert (knee): OUT
  • CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring): Questionable

The Niners are also without cornerback Richard Sherman (calf), as well as wide receivers Deebo Samuel (foot) and Richie James (wrist), and all three are on short-term injured reserve and won’t be back in time for Week 3.

If there’s good news, though, No. 2 tight end Jordan Reed impressed last Sunday with 50 yards and two touchdowns, so Kittle’s absence might not be too big a hit in the wake of his Week 1 knee injury.

NY Giants

  • DB Adrian Colbert (quadricep): Doubtful
  • DB Brandon Williams (groin): Questionable

The Giants are also dealing with some devastating injuries, namely losing star running back Saquon Barkley to a season-ending ACL tear suffered in their Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Wide receiver Sterling Shepard (turf toe) is also out on short-term IR.

SF 49ers Week 3 betting odds and lines

Despite the rash of injuries, the Niners are currently favorites in this game, sitting at minus-4 heading into the weekend, according to The Action Network.

The over/under for the game is 41.5, and the money is currently favoring the over.

The Action Network’s best money lines, currently, are minus-192 for San Francisco and plus-175 for New York.

SF 49ers vs. NY Giants: Week 3 forecast and game weather

Last Sunday’s conditions at MetLife Stadium were ideal, and there aren’t too many changes to the forecast at the same location for Week 3 aside from the fact there will be mostly cloudy skies over East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday.

The temperature at kickoff is projected to be 75 degrees with southerly winds of seven miles per hour.

Humidity is predicted to be at 81 percent, dropping slowly as the game moves along.
