No. 1: SF 49ers should start Jordan Reed over George Kittle
Under nearly any other circumstance, the suggestion of starting tight end Jordan Reed over George Kittle would be blasphemy.
In this Week 3 case, however, it’s not.

True, Kittle is closer to returning to the field after suffering a knee injury in Week 1 and missing the Jets game last Sunday. But with the conditions at MetLife Stadium “questionable” at best, at least in terms of the field, one has to figure keeping Kittle out of action for at least another week would be the smarter of the decisions Kyle Shanahan could make.
Particularly after Reed impressed with seven catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets.
Reed appears to have worked his way back up to speed after missing 2019 with injuries. The Niners have fully acclimated him into the offense. And while it would be a massive boost for Shanahan to have both Kittle and Reed on the field at the same time, it makes more sense for the long run to let Reed have another start while Kittle sits out to fully recover.
Especially if San Francisco is projected to win this particular contest.
The Niners and G-Men kick off on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. ET from MetLife Stadium.
