With the SF 49ers banged up ahead of their Week 3 bout versus the NY Giants, Kyle Shanahan should consider these four roster tweaks.

Whatever prospects the SF 49ers had for returning to the Super Bowl and winning it this season took a massive hit during their 31-13 Week 2 road win over the New York Jets last Sunday.

Injuries, a lot of them, decimated head coach Kyle Shanahan’s ranks. Those suffering injuries at varying lengths of recovery included quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), nose tackle D.J. Jones (ankle), running back Raheem Mostert (knee), running back Tevin Coleman (knee), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (thigh) and defensive lineman Solomon Thomas (knee).

But the biggest blow of all was when the team learned Pro Bowl EDGE Nick Bosa, along with Thomas, suffered a season-ending ACL tear.

Just like that, two key contributors on defense are lost for the rest of the year.

Fortunately, the Niners don’t have to travel from coast to coast again for their Week 3 bout versus the 0-2 New York Giants, who are coming off their own devastating loss to the Chicago Bears last week, which saw their star running back, Saquon Barkley, suffer a season-ending ACL tear, too.

For now, it makes sense a still-superior San Francisco squad is favored by four points, according to the Action Network. And there’s still adequate depth on both sides of the ball to suggest the SF 49ers should win this game relatively easily.

That said, Shanahan has to adjust based on what he knows about his roster now and the likelihood of some of his injured players returning, hopefully sooner than later.

With the prospects of going 2-1 on the season now at hand, here are four tweaks to the SF 49ers roster Shanahan and Co. should consider between now and Sunday.
