No. 3: The last thing the SF 49ers needs is for Mullens to get injured
Look, this one seems pretty obvious. But the SF 49ers cannot afford to lose Nick Mullens to any type of injury against the Giants. This has nothing to do with backup quarterback C.J. Beathard either.
Mullens is a clear second-stringer. He’s proven it the past couple of years and even has a few wins under his belt. If the Niners lose him for any amount of time, it could cause some added stresses the front office doesn’t need.
The NFL has given the “all clear” for the SF 49ers and New York Giants to play on Sunday in MetLife Stadium. NBC Sports’ Mike Florio described the investigation perfectly in this article.
“The NFL says that the field was fine,” Florio wrote. “Because the NFL’s field inspector, who inspected every field, found it to be fine.”
Mullens did play the second half against the New York Jets, so he already has a sense of what the field conditions can be on yet another Sunday afternoon in New York.
