The SF 49ers potentially lost Nick Bosa to a season-ending injury, meaning the Niners may need to purge the free-agent scrap heap entering Week 3.

Yes, the SF 49ers managed to get back to the .500 mark early in 2020 after a one-sided 31-13 road win over the hapless New York Jets in Week 2.

But the victory was largely overshadowed by a slew of potentially crucial injuries. Especially what looked to be a serious knee injury suffered by second-year Pro Bowl EDGE Nick Bosa.

Bosa went down awkwardly in the first half amid a pileup near the line of scrimmage, his left leg bending back in a way Pro Football Doc suggested would be a season-ending ACL tear:

While further tests will ultimately reveal whether or not Bosa tore his ACL, but it’s safe to say he’ll be out for quite a while.

Unfortunately, the SF 49ers also lost a number of other key players during the game. Fellow defensive lineman Solomon Thomas went down with what appeared to be a non-contact injury shortly after Bosa left the field, and Thomas also had to be carted off.

Right there, the Niners D-line depth will be tested in coming weeks.

Additionally, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a leg injury and didn’t return for the second half, and running back Raheem Mostert also exited early.

But Bosa and, to a lesser extent, Thomas, highlight the injury concerns San Francisco will have heading into Week 3 against the New York Giants. And it’s likely general manager John Lynch will have to make some phone calls to reinforce what’s turning into a depleted D-line early this season.

Here are three players who likely wind up getting some free-agent attention from Lynch and the 49ers.
