With the SF 49ers coming off a Week 1 loss versus the Cardinals, Kyle Shanahan and Co. need to ensure they correct some mistakes against the NY Jets.

The SF 49ers need to bounce back from an ugly, disjointed loss in Week 1 versus the Arizona Cardinals. And while road trips all the way to the East Coast are typically a difficult way to make it happen, at least the 0-1 New York Jets provide an opportunity for head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad to get back to the .500 mark early in 2020.

The Jets had their own ugly, uninspiring loss in Week 1 to the Buffalo Bills and included falling behind 21-3 by halftime.

And while the Niners are dealing with some notable injuries to some of their significant players, most recently cornerback Richard Sherman (leg) going on short-term injured reserve, New York is also dealing with some key injuries, too. The Jets are going to be without running back Le’Veon Bell (hamstring) and wide receiver Denzel Mims (hamstring), who also both landed on short-term IR. Fellow wide receiver Jamison Crowder, who recorded seven receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, also is dealing with a hamstring injury.

His status for Week 2 remains unknown.

That said, San Francisco did a lot to beat itself in Week 1 versus the Cardinals, and some of the mistakes do fall on Shanahan. Sure, the execution ultimately falls upon the players themselves. But Shanahan has to be sure he doesn’t recreate some of the gaffes he had against Arizona, which ultimately influenced the Cardinals’ ability to pull off the upset.

If the SF 49ers want to ensure they pull off the win in New York against the Jets, they’ll have to avoid these five critical mistakes.
