With the SF 49ers looking to bounce back in Week 2 versus the NY Jets, these four players are going to draw a lot of focus on their efforts.

It’s no surprise there’s a lot of criticism and hot takes going around after the SF 49ers fell in embarrassing fashion to the underdog Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 last Sunday.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan received some of the blame, mainly due to some questionable play-calling and game management. But it’s always important to note the game is played by players, and they’re the ones ultimately responsible for executing properly.

At least that’s what quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo thought, telling reporters after Sunday’s game:

"You just want to eliminate errors, really, is what it comes down to. Just everyone being on the same page, seeing the same picture and I think we’ll be good from there, but I think it’s just when it comes to third down, red zone, things like that, we just have to execute at the end of the day."

The Niners’ next chance to execute better comes this Sunday against the 0-1 New York Jets, who also fell in embarrassing fashion to the Buffalo Bills.

Although the reasons for embarrassment were vastly different. New York isn’t expected to be good, while San Francisco was upset. The former being problematic is more indicative of the struggles from head coach Adam Gase and a disjointed roster lacking firepower amid injuries.

The SF 49ers are dealing with injuries, too, although the roster is much deeper. Yet those injuries have thrust other players into the spotlight, in many cases and for better or worse.

So, with Sunday’s contest approaching, Niner Noise looks at four players who’ll be closely evaluated under the proverbial microscope for their efforts in Week 2.
