SF 49ers Defensive Line (10)

EDGE Nick Bosa

DT Javon Kinlaw

DT DJ Jones

DE Arik Armstead

EDGE Dee Ford

DT Solomon Thomas

DT Kevin Givens

EDGE Ronald Blair

EDGE Dion Jordan

DE Kerry Hyder

Lots of names here, which makes sense because this is the deepest and best position group on the team, with even the depth guys more or less established and only a few openings really up for grabs.

Nick Bosa, Javon Kinlaw, D.J. Jones, Arik Armstead, Dee Ford, and Solomon Thomas are all cemented into not only their roster spots but their roles on the team.

Second-year defensive tackle Kevin Givens played well when given the opportunity last year, especially in the de-fact NFC West championship game in Seattle, but lost his slot to Earl Mitchell throughout the playoffs. He’s built upon that with a good camp and could be hard to stash on the practice squad, meaning he’ll get a chance to be the direct backup to the starter, Jones.

For EDGE Ronald Blair, the issue is more about his health and whether he’ll be ready to start the season on the active roster. He’s currently on the PUP list but could certainly be removed before Saturday and added to the 53-man roster.

Or he could remain on the PUP, meaning he’ll miss the first six weeks of the season.

If Blair does make the roster, Dion Jordan and Kerry Hyder are players who could allow the former App State Mountaineer to be inactive for a few weeks, as both are capable of playing on the edge in passing situations.

Hyder, who had his best season with SF 49ers’ defensive line coach Chris Kocurek in Detroit, also has the ability to rush from the inside, versatility that could see him leapfrog others to make the team.

There are other names to watch, like rookie undrafted free agent Darrion Daniels and Kentavius Street, each of whom, especially Street, could crack the roster if Jordan or Hyder fails to impress in the final days of camp.
