SF 49ers Tight Ends (3)

George Kittle

Jordan Reed

Charlie Woerner

This is one of the easier position units to predict, although it may turn out that there’s actually a fourth member added to the number here in the end.

If the number is four, it’s likely because while the team has been impressed with newly signed Jordan Reed, there is still concern about his ability to remain healthy throughout an entire season. In that case, keeping Ross Dwelley, last year’s TE2, around might be more as Reed insurance than anything else.

But for now let’s assume full health for all, in which case All-Pro George Kittle and Reed will serve as one of the best tight end tandems in the NFL, with rookie Charlie Woerner taking over the role that Levine Toilolo played last season as primarily a blocker in the run game.

This doesn’t mean Woerner won’t develop as a pass-catcher, but for 2020, expect his role to be a little bit more defined, especially if Kittle and Reed prove to be as dynamic a duo as they could be.
