SF 49ers Target No. 3: Defensive End Damontre Moore
Since we’re on the topic of reunions, the Niners elected to part ways with former CFL edge rusher Johnathan Kongbo in an attempt to add more bodies to their depleted wide receiver corps.
San Francisco is now pretty short on outside pass-rushers, prompting Kyle Shanahan to tell reporters he might be looking at bringing in some additional players to round out this portion of the depth chart between now and the start of the regular season.
One of the players to wonder about is defensive end Ronald Blair, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the second half of 2019. He’s expected to be back in time for the regular season, but the lack of offseason workouts could ultimately hinder his impact.
Or even jeopardize his health.
Outside pass-rushing depth is important, and former 49ers defensive end Damontre Moore would be another one of those players who should be on quick dial. Moore, the epitome of a journeyman, has bounced around the league with five separate NFL teams before joining the now-defunct AAF, then landing with the Niners in early 2019.
Waived and re-signed twice with San Francisco, the last time to replace Blair, Moore became a quiet nice story for the team before suffering his own season-ending injury, a broken forearm.
Fully healthy, one would have to think Moore would come back at a bare minimum for any part of 2020.
