No. 1: 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

The quarterback position is the most important position on a football team. They have to lead the offense down the field and orchestrate the plays on a better-than-average mark to be successful.

It’s pretty simple: When a team has a good quarterback, it’s in a good position to win on a regular basis. When it doesn’t have a good quarterback, winning is exceptionally tougher.

When the 49ers lost their quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, to an ACL tear in 2018, they subsequently went 4-12 despite pre-season hype they’d be in contention for a playoff berth. With Garropolo starting all 16 games last season, the Niners went to the Super Bowl.

The importance of having a competent quarterback can not be understated. And despite the Niners boasting a competent backup signal-caller in Nick Mullens, Garoppolo’s presence is a prime reason why the 49ers are a playoff-caliber group entering 2020.
