With the first week of 49ers training camp ending, we look at the winners and losers.

In a challenging year, the San Francisco 49ers finally returned to some normalcy with training camp finally getting underway.

Well, “normalcy” being a general term at least.

With the COVID-19 pandemic halting any plans for players practicing together (for the most part) before camp, it was inevitable to find some players were a bit rusty. There weren’t any minicamps or organized team activities (OTAs), and training camp has marked the first time the entire squad has gotten on the field together for the first time this year.

But on the other hand, we’ve seen some players step up through the adversity to make impressive starts to the year, including some surprising names.

So let’s take a look at the players who impressed or unimpressed during the first week of training camp for San Francisco.

49ers Winner: Trent Williams

New offensive tackle Trent Williams was one of the few new starters on this Niners team. Even though he had experience in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s zone-blocking offense, there was some question if taking 2019 off amid a contract dispute in Washington would make him a bit rusty.

Well, those fears can now be assuaged, since Williams has been taking on and beating the Niners’ top defender in EDGE Nick Bosa.

The two have been going head to head against each other at camp, and Williams has been having the better of the young star. Both have huge talent, and they’re making themselves better for the competition.

Look for the two to continue to battle up until Week 1, and be the better players for it.
