The CFL announced there won’t be a 2020 season, which means fans from Canada need a team to cheer for and the 49ers are a perfect choice.

This fall is going to look a lot different in Canada with no CFL action. The last time the CFL didn’t hand out the Grey Cup was in 1919. If you know a CFL fan, make sure you check on them… It’s been a while since they haven’t been able to watch Canadian football.

However, this bodes well for the NFL and the San Francisco 49ers. The spotlight is now firmly on them because football fans will watch the game no matter what.

So if you’re a CFL fan reading this and you need a team to adopt for the 2020 season and beyond, allow me to convince you why the Niners should be your team to root for.

49ers’ Location

The 49ers play football at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. It’s a gorgeous location just 45 minutes south of San Francisco.

Levi’s Stadium is a fairly new facility. It became the home of the 49ers after they moved from historic Candlestick Park. Since it’s opening in 2014, Levi’s has hosted Super Bowl 50, the College Football Playoffs, and Wrestle Mania.

Beyond sports, the amazing facility which won the 2015 Venue of the Year by The Stadium Sports Business Awards has hosted concerts from the likes of The Rolling Stones, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift.

San Francisco is an extremely beautiful area. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean it’s home to some amazing seafood, cable cars, and sunsets to take your breath away.

49ers’ Rich History

The Niners have been around for 76 years. They’ve won 20 division titles, seven NFC championships and five Super Bowls.

The team made a name for themselves in the 1980s when the late Bill Walsh drafted a couple of kids by the names of Joe Montana and Dwight Clark in the 1979 NFL Draft.

Montana and Clark were the best quarterback-pass catcher duo of all time. They combined for one of the greatest catches in NFL history with “The Catch.”

The 49ers came up with two more incredible catches, with the second being from quarterback Steve Young to wide receiver Terrell Owens, and the third from quarterback Alex Smith to tight end Vernon Davis.

All three came in important playoff victories for the organization.

San Francisco was also home to former CFL great quarterback Jeff Garcia. Garcia is still associated with the 49ers as he’s now an analyst for NBC Bay Area.

49ers’ Bright Future

If the CFL folded in the late 2000s, it would be hard to convince fans of a bright future for San Francisco. Admittedly, it didn’t look too good. However, it’s now 2020 and this team is on the uptick.

Lead by general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan, this young group of players are buying into the system and you should too.

Tight end George Kittle just signed a new deal which keeps him in the Bay Area for the next few years. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is one of the most underrated rising stars in the NFL. They lead the 49ers in one of the most exciting offenses in the league, matching the likes of the Baltimore Ravens.

If you believe defense wins championships, the Niners boast one of the top units in the NFL, starting with defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who brings a level of energy that can’t be matched.

Last year rookie defensive lineman Nick Bosa won Defensive Rookie of the Year. He’s an exceptional talent whom any football fan can like. He’s poised to drop the “rookie” in the award and be the 2020 Defensive Player of the Year.

The 49ers also drafted wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw. Aiyuk’s wingspan is that of an airplane… OK, maybe not an airplane, but this kid will turn heads this season. Kinlaw is a beast in the trenches and will create an exciting duo with Bosa.

The 49ers also have the best fans in the NFL. The 49ers Faithful are always passionate about their team and cheer for the team no matter what. It’s a great fan base to be associated with as the CFL pauses for the 2020 season.
