The 49ers have had some notable storylines from their wide receivers during training camp, and Niner Noise looks at a revised depth chart after a week.

The San Francisco 49ers have wrapped up one full week of on-field practices during training camp.

And even though this year’s camp has been much different than others in years prior, many storylines are falling in line with what was projected earlier this offseason.

The Niners’ wide receiver room certainly hasn’t been immune to this. After losing veteran wideout Emmanuel Sanders to free agency during the offseason, then following the team’s selection of rookie receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings in the NFL Draft, trying to figure out how head coach Kyle Shanahan would compile this unit was always going to be a hot topic.

One week into training camp, that’s certainly the case.

Of course, there has been drama, namely with injuries to Deebo Samuel (foot), Richie James (wrist) and, most recently, Jalen Hurd (ACL). These setbacks have prompted San Francisco to onboard free-agent wide receivers.

As of now, the 49ers wide receiver depth chart of healthy players is as follows:

  • Brandon Aiyuk
  • Tavon Austin
  • Kendrick Bourne
  • Jaron Brown
  • Jauan Jennings
  • J.J. Nelson
  • Dante Pettis
  • Shawn Poindexter
  • Trent Taylor

Samuel and James are expected back soon in the regular season, although their availability for Week 1 isn’t yet clear. It wouldn’t be shocking if the Niners brought both players back slowly, although roster rules could mandate a decision between an inactive weekly placement on the 53-man roster or designation on the physically unable-to-perform (PUP) list with a designation to return after a minimum of six regular-season weeks.

With that in mind, Niner Noise explores a revised version of what the team’s depth chart at the position will look like in Week 1 based on what we know from reports and training camp.
