No. 4: Quarterback C.J. Beathard — CUT

Plain and simple here: Second-string quarterback Nick Mullens is much better and this team is too stacked to be carrying a third QB. I love the toughness third-string quarterback C.J. Beathard brings to the table, but it can also be his downfall as he holds onto the ball too long which has led to way too many turnovers during his embattled career.

Beathard’s spot has been secure in the past because Kyle Shanahan hand-picked him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft and might be too stubborn to prove he made a mistake on him. It made plenty of sense to keep him as insurance last year with the starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, fresh off an ACL injury. But Shanahan and John Lynch need to move on from the No. 3 signal-caller.

The team is too deep and will need the extra roster spot for more depth elsewhere.
