The 49ers don’t have too many openings on their 53-man roster, yet these four veterans on offense find themselves on the bubble entering 2020.

The San Francisco 49ers can feel pretty good about retaining the vast majority of their 22 starters on offense and defense from their Super Bowl squad a season ago.

True, on offense, the Niners lost veteran left tackle Joe Staley to retirement and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders to free agency. But replacing both with perennial Pro Bowl tackle Trent Williams and promising rookie wideout Brandon Aiyuk in the NFL Draft ended up being excellent consolation prizes.

As such, head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad doesn’t exactly have a lot of holes to fill heading into training camp.

But just like the defensive side of the ball, questions start to flare up when looking at the team’s depth. While the vast majority of offensive starters are essentially shoo-ins for their respective roles, a number of depth spots are completely up for grabs.

And it’s always possible there wind up being a few roster shake-ups and surprises when Shanahan announces his 53-man roster ahead of Week 1.

While a good chunk of reserve offensive players find themselves on the roster, a few find themselves quite shocking placements. Either due to the context in which they found themselves on San Francisco’s roster or because of the nature of competition at their individual positions. Shanahan has never shied away from giving the best player the nod at a specific role, whether it be as a starter or backup. And that won’t change in 2020.

With that as a backdrop, Niner Noise explores four players on offense who suddenly find themselves on the roster bubble entering training camp.
