San Francisco 49ers: 5 toughest quarterbacks Niners will face in 2020
By Peter Panacy
49ers Opponent No. 2: Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Another quarterback on here essentially by default is Drew Brees.
Yes, Brees is 41 years old and it’s time to start questioning when the inevitable drop off in production takes place. But with wide receivers Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders now in tow, it’s just as possible Brees puts up yet another season in which he comes close to leading the league in passing.
Especially if he’s healthy for a full 16-game season.
It seems like a yearly tradition now the 49ers travel to the Mercedes Benz Superdome to take on the Saints, and this Week 10 road bout could carry similar implications as did the Niners’ Week 14 contest a year ago.
And, boy. What a contest that was.
Brees and Jimmy Garoppolo dueled it out in one of the craziest back-and-forth games of the regular season, ultimately going San Francisco’s way on a last-second field goal. But considering Brees tossed five touchdowns in that game, including what could have been a clutch fourth-quarter comeback, it’s not hard to understand why the 49ers’ upcoming bout this season wouldn’t be any less exciting.
More than challenging, too, putting Brees at No. 2 on this list.
