49ers Wide receivers

Making the team: Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne, Deebo Samuel, Jauan Jennings, Dante Pettis, Trent Taylor, Jalen Hurd, Richie James
Missing out: Travis Benjamin, Chris Finke, Shawn Poindexter, Chris Thompson

Analysis

This is a tough call because the team could take as few as six receivers on the roster and as many as eight. What influenced the decision to go to eight, however, is how many players on here have never played for San Francisco before and the potential difficulty in establishing chemistry without preseason games.

Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings and Jalen Hurd (albeit with some preseason action from last year under his belt) fall under this category. All three have the talent and should make the roster, but the team may not see immediate results and would have to look elsewhere.

The team should see some consistency from Deebo Samuel and Kendrick Bourne. Trent Taylor has great chemistry with Garoppolo when healthy and he can fit in the slot.

Richie James will stay in, due to his ability as a returner, although he can be in some danger if Dante Pettis gets some reps there. Pettis has talent but hasn’t taken his career seriously thus far. This may be his last chance to make an impact.

Travis Benjamin is the biggest out here, yett his inability to use preseason games to work himself up the depth chart will count against him. The other three players on the list are unlikely to do any better and would need injuries or exceptionally big camps to be in with a chance.
